Climb the wide stone staircase in a now redundant textile mill situated on the edge of the Yorkshire Moors and you may be surprised to enter a former spinning room now converted to a busy photographic studio. This is the base for John Chilton, a talented photographer with a career spanning more than 35 years.

Best known for his expertise in photographing furniture and room-sets, John has only recently ventured beyond the boundaries of commercial photography. His six weeks photographing erotica resulted in his most significant work to date, the breath-taking ‘Art House’ portfolio, on show for the first time at Coffee, Cake & Kink. Intimacy and intensity combine in images that effortlessly cross the line between female and male nude, couples and more explicit homo-erotica. Notable for skill and imagination, attention to the smallest detail and complete studio and darkroom control, John is a mature talent that has ripened late and a promise of visual feasts to come.

John’s exhibition is still one of my favorites that you’ve run at CCK.

Smoking Room and Paperwork are both particularly appealing - there’s something really beautiful about the way he composes shots that makes them feel almost like paintings to me. Wonderful stuff.

I loved this exhibition and even though I visited CCK fairly regularly while it was on I was left wanting one last look at these completely beautiful images each time I left.
