Paul is a London based photographer. From a young age he was fascinated with painters such as Dali, Monet and Picasso. His admiration for these people led him to produce his own pencil drawings and paintings inspired by their styles.
However, this creative output shifted to the photographic medium whilst in the early stages of completing a university foundation year. There he discovered the work of Joel-Peter Witkin, which spawned his desire to create similar imagery that possessed the same type of dark and bitter undertow. By using various ‘painted light’ techniques, he created a vast collection of self-portraits that held a distinctively nightmarish quality.
This led to Paul moving from his hometown of Birmingham to London, to study a Photographic Arts degree at the University of Westminster. He continued his self-portraiture and used new influences such as Floria Sigismondi and Nigel Wingrove to further his twisted experimental style and successfully graduated in 2001.
Pursuing to establish himself as a young uprising photographer, he then found new influence from the likes of Nick Knight and David LaChapelle. This transgression saw Paul’s style cross from being dark and morbid, morphing into being dark yet sensual. Now photographing people who indulge within the gothic and fetish lifestyle, he is constantly expanding his alternative fashion portfolio.
Paul now hopes to build upon his level of commissioned work, which to date has included numerous portfolio shoots for various models, producing imagery for heavy metal band PDHM’s debut album and being published (including front cover) for Total Tattoo magazine.
