Simon’s work has been used by publishers such as Virgin, Pan MacMillan, and Creation books, on covers of Erotic and Crime Fiction. His influences come from 1950’s Pulp Fiction illustrations, Silent Film stills of stars such as Clara Bow, and the colourful, exciting world of American band The Cramps.
In his first exhibition at CCK “Dirty Girls are Good” March 08 - April 08, Simon added words to his favourite images to enhance the message being received by the viewer. Sometimes this is for humour (Dirty Girls are Good), sometimes for poignancy (Nothing Touches - the closest Simon has ever come to ‘Social’ photography). Sometimes it’s just to heighten the energy of the shot.
Mostly Simon just takes the photos he wants to create, seeing them first in his head, then choosing a model or actress to fit the character he wants to portray. He looks for women with good or interesting faces who are able to convey intensity or emotion.
Limited Edition Giclee Canvass prints are available for sale.
